Looking for the mean and variance of probability distribution where I have 4 sums (d) 1,2,3,4 with probability (p) 1/4, 3/8, 1/4, 1/8. The homework states that I am looking for E(D₂) = ..... and then Var(D₂) = E(D₂²) - (E(D₂))². I don't know if these are the formulas I need to get the mean and variance of the probability distribution, or if they are just part of the formula, I'm really not sure what the question is looking for.
