Lopinavir-ritonavir is a fixed dose combination medication for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. A study was conducted to test whether the lopinavir-ritonavirat therapy was effective to treat COVID-19 patients. A total of 199 patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection underwent randomization; 99 were assigned to the lopinavir-ritonavir group, and 100 to the standard-care group. The lopinavir-ritonavir group received lopinavir-ritonavir twice a day for 14 days, in addition to standard care, while the standard-care group received standard care only. It was found 78 of 99 patients in the lopinavir-ritonavir group and 70 of 100 patients in the standard-care group observed clinical improvement 28 days after treatment. Test whether lopinavir-ritonavir therapy is effective in treating COVID-19 at = 0.05 level of significance.
