1. Lucy's son Ryan is home after his last round of chemotherapy. The doctors treating him stressed the importance of tracking all the medicines that he is supposed to take. Ryan is expected to take a lot of pills—in fact, 15 per day.
   
   Doctors whittled it down, but it's still a lot to remember for Ryan's mom. Lucy says it's been a tough month since they came back from the hospital. After talking to the doctor about difficulties in keeping with the medication regimen, the doctor prescribed pills with tiny digital sensors in them, coupled with a patch that transmits information about Ryan's vitals and the medication intake.
   
   Alex is there to visit Ryan and help out Lucy. Looking at the patch on Ryan's hand, Alex asked, "How does this work?"
   
   Lucy replied, "This patch sends data to my phone and the doctor's phone. When Ryan takes his medicine and it's absorbed into his system, we both get a text message. I get one on my phone and Ryan also gets one on his iPad that says, "Hey you've taken the medicine." We find this new technology very helpful - and it means Ryan can go to school."
   
   Alex thinks about the risks that come with the benefits of this patch.
   
   She wonders what would happen if someone could hack the system that keeps the records transmitted by the patch or if something goes wrong and the sensors start transmitting wrong data.
