M process fluid is pumped from the bottom of one distillation (20pts) column to another, using a centrifugal pump. The line is standard commercial steel pipe 3.5 in nominal diameter of m long and contains six standard elbows, three gate valves and a butterfly type non-return valve having a K value of 0.8 number of velocity heads. From the pump outlet to the second column the line is 250m long and contains ten standard elbows, four gate valves (operated fully open) and a flow control valve. An orifice meter to determine the flow rate of the fluid is also present in the out let line. Out line is of 2.5 in nominal diameter Schedule 80 . The fluid level in the first column is 4m above the pump inlet. The feed point of the second column is 6m above the pump inlet. The operating pressure in the first column is 1.05 bar and that of the second column 1.3 bar. The pressure drop across the control valve is 35kN/m2. The losses from orifice meter can be estimated by 6000 of number of equivalent pipe diameter. The physical properties of the fluid are: density 875kg/m3, viscosity 1.46mNm2s1. If the differential pressure provided by the pump is 1800kPa then determine the flow rate in the pipe line and the power required by the pump if its efficiency is 75%
