M2.1 FISH. A study of fish weights was undertaken at Lake Julian. The weights of 127fish were recorded
(in grams) along with the height and width (in mm) of each fish. The scientist would like to see if height
or width would be a better predictor of weight.
a) Prepare a scatter plot showing the relationship between the weight and each of the
independent variables. Properly format (trend line with equation, modify equation with variable
names rather than x & y, axes labels, etc.) this scatterplot and paste into a Word document with
a Figure number. Write an interpretation which includes which variable is the best predictor,
discuss the model fit, and write the regression equation of the best predictor.
b) How did you choose Height or Weight as your best predictor?
c) How do you use the value of Significance F in the model with only one independent variable?
d) Create an ANOVA table for your best predictor (using Excel's Regression procedure), format it to
show no more than 3 decimal places and remove duplicate columns. Copy and paste it at of the
end of the Word document you created in part (a).
e) Based on your best model, what is the predicted weight of a fish that is 14 mm high and 5mm
wide?
