In 2023, only 41% (1,109 tonnes) of this waste type was recycled, while the remaining 59% (1,624 tonnes) was sent to landfills. This is a notable decrease from the 71% recycling rate achieved in 2021. To address this, I propose increasing the recycling rate to 75%, nearly matching the success seen in 2021. This adjustment would enhance our environmental stewardship by diverting an additional 941 tonnes of waste from landfills annually, as shown in the table below. Continuing with a low recycling rate of 41% exposes us to potential risks. Stricter regulations on waste disposal could be implemented in the future, and our current practices might not comply with these new standards. This could result in significant fines and penalties.
