Major environmental justice studies discussed in lecture reveal that compared with non-minority and higher income areas, minority and lower income areas have a disproportionately high number of hazardous waste facilities, experience a slower pace of clean-up of Superfund sites, and find that government environmental penalties for pollution and violation of environmental laws are lower and citizens in minority and lower-income areas wait longer for federal clean-up actions
