Experiment 3 - Notched Izod (steel, aluminum, brass) Purpose: Determine and compare the material toughness of three different materials and compare their behavior. Izod impact is defined as the kinetic energy needed to initiate fracture and continue the fracture until the specimen is broken. The specimen is clamped into the pendulum impact tester. The pendulum is released and allowed to strike the specimen.
