SPH3U: Physics, Grade 11, University Preparation Unit 5: Electricity and Magnetism Lab Report: Ohm's Law: Name: Date: Purpose: The purpose of this lab activity is to investigate the relationship between the voltage across a resistor and the current flowing through it. Hypothesis: (answer the questions below in full sentences prior to starting the lab) a) What effect will increasing the voltage in a circuit have on the current in the circuit? b) What effect will increasing the voltage in a circuit have on the brightness of a light bulb connected to the circuit? Materials: In addition to this sheet, you will require a calculator and graphing software (e.g. Excel). Method: The instructions for the activity are in this sheet itself. Be sure to use the experimental data already given to you in this sheet- see Table #1. Observations: (Remember to write a descriptive title for Table #1) Use descriptive words to add your comments on the_brightness of the light bulb, where missing, in Table #1, see \"light yellow rows* below: Table 1- Experimental Data: Voltage Brightness of the light bulb (Measure of Brightness Seen) 0.013 A - 0.038 A | LOW BRIGHTNESS 0.063 A 0.075 A MODERATE (MEDIUM) BRIGHT 0.113 A GOOD AMOUNT OF BRIGHTNESS EXTREMELY BRIGHT (THE BRIGHTEST) Calculations: Using the data collected (data from Table #1) for a voltage of 3.5V, calculate the resistance of the_bulb. Make sure to show all your steps/calculations and include your formula with proper units. Analysis: 1. Use the given data from Table #1 to plot a Voltage vs. Current graph. Make sure to label your graph (title, axis) properly. (Hint: Voltage goes on the vertical y-axis.) 2. Draw in the line-of-best-fit and_determine the slope of the line. Show your calculations for the slope of the line. Round off your final answer to one decimal point and state proper units. 3. What does the slope of the line represent? 4. Compare your results (data from Table #1) to the predictions you made in your hypothesis. Conclusion: Write a brief summary of your results. Did you successfully accomplish the purpose of the lab? Please restate your hypothesis and compare it to your experimental data (data from Table #1)
