FAST FORWARD AUTOBIOGRAPHY

I am thankfully in fairly good health overall. The long walks in the park and mornings spent gardening have kept me active. Of course, I take some medications as well as vitamins to keep up my energy. I live in a small house near my daughter and her family in a quiet suburb. Throughout my life, I've seen my family grow in size as my children had children of their own. Now, I have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who love to come and visit me. We share so many wonderful memories together that I will always cherish. I was very fortunate to be able to retire at age seventy-one and enjoy life with my loved ones. I don't work anymore, but I get a monthly income from are tirement account, social security, I set up when I was younger. The money allows me to pay for medicines if I need them. It also lets me enjoy the occasional treat, such as going out to a restaurant for dinner or seeing a movie. I have worked hard to keep my cognitive abilitiess harp. I love to read books and magazines, as well as do puzzles and crosswords. Keeping my mind stimulated has been important to me as I've gotten older. I also stay connected to what's going on in the world with news, both print and online. Because of these activities, my short-term and primary memory remain strong and are even getting a boost from my long-term memory. I have also paid attention to advice from my doctor on staying oriented, such as keeping to a regular schedule and knowing who I am and where I am. My behavior changed over the years. I still have a healthy sense of humor, although I can't say my sense of adventure has remained the same. I find myself preferring the comforts of my own home, enjoying the little moments with my family while partaking in more sedentary activities of daily living such as playing card games. I also find great joy in the occasional trips I take for a change of scenery and to reminisce on the places I've been .Of course, there have been many losses throughout my life because of the Age-associated memory. Writing out memories of my loved ones has helped me more easily cope with my grief, such as creating a scrapbook to remember all the wonderful times we had. Faith in God and joining a support group for those who have suffered a loss helps too. Icherish the advice and stories passed down to me from other family members, which provides me with a richer understanding of life. With that understanding, I am content with the life I've lived. I have achieved many of my goals and been part of a loving family. My triumphs and failures have shaped me into the person I am today and I feel proud of the person looking back at me in the mirror. My 85thbirthday is crystallized intelligence because it is a reminder of the importance of living with a positive outlook as I continue to age, knowing I still have a lot of life left to live. Although I realize life comes with its problems, I also know these will be managed when they come. Whether it is focusing on having quality of life, like eating healthy and getting adequate exercise, to knowing the Food and Drug Administration guidelines for medications, or doing research on the best pharmacokinetics and tolerance for different drugs, I am prepared to do what is necessary to remain healthy and safe. My 85th birthday marks the beginning of a new period in my life in which I will continue to act on my knowledge, faith, and experience that has gotten me this far.

Happy 85th birthday to me!
