Mandy and John have been dating for just over a year and have recently decided to work on a screenplay together for a movie; John works as a professional screenwriter and has written a number of successful films, while Mandy is a musician - an orchestral cellist

- who has transitioned to part time employment after a spell of ill health.

Mandy has been interested in exploring the story of one of the first female lead violinists to play for the Berlin Philharmonic for quite some time and suggests that this story be the focus of their screenplay. John agrees, and they spend a few months on characterisation, plotting and story. During all of this time John takes on the task of actually formatting and typing up the text of the screenplay in proper, industry format. Mandy informs dialogue, story and plotting with her own experience of life as professional female musician, with her deep knowledge of music and how professional orchestras actually work.

A few months into their work, the relationship sours, and they eventually break up. John finishes what minimal work is left on the screenplay and it is produced a year later. It becomes the surprise hit of the year and is a considerable commercial success. In the credits and press for the film, Mandy is not mentioned, and she receives no contact from John regarding the film, her input or any money she might be entitled to.
