Many believe that the critical orientation demands that social informatics research be based on rigorous empirical work that includes an array of data collection approaches, sophisticated large-scale analyses and complex conceptualizations. Additionally, people should be depicted as social actors, acting in ways that reflect both informal social norms and formal rules of action, and perhaps most importantly not just primarily users of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

From your point of view, what is the significance of this statement to the research and study of Social Informatics? How do you see peoples depiction as social actors? And can you name some examples?
