Many of you may not know of the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit*, but ask your parents or grandparents and they may. Before researching this case for yourself, find one person (friend, family, coworker) who knows about this case. Ask them what they remember.

Once you have completed both tasks, answer the following questions:

1. How accurate was your friend's/family member's memory of the case?

• What did they remember about the case?
• Compared to the actual facts?

2. Do you think McDonald's should have been held liable under the theory of strict liability? Why or why not?

3. Do you think the jury award was justified? Why or why not?
