Many organizations, whether they are private industry, government, or nongovernmental organizations, are involved in environmental activities and/or environmental activism. Such public participation is a key component of environmental education and environmental citizenship. Your first step is to select an organization. If you do not have one in mind, there is a guide to finding an organization that interests you at the end of this document.

Research and Organization and Write about your Findings

Once you have selected your organization, research your organization and summarize each of the following items:

1-Name the organization and its main purpose. Write a brief summary of the organization's environmental successes and stated values. (1-2 paragraphs)

2-Describe in detail the organization's activities that have had a positive impact on the environment. Include links to more information (website, news articles, ongoing projects, etc.) when possible. If the organization has many activities, select a few to summarize

3-Elaborate on how the activity(ies) impact human health and well-being. Think about our discussions & notes about interconnections and make links between the environmental issue and the people affected. (2-3 paragraphs).

4- Personal reflection: Take some time to explore how this environmental issue affects you personally. Why did you choose this topic? Do your actions have an impact on the issue, either positive or negative? What can you do to help make the situation better (i.e. what are your environmental responsibilities)? (1-2 paragraphs)
