Many schools and businesses are not doing an effective job at getting this valuable, research-based information to teachers and others through professional development. The larger question is why? We know it's, often, not because schools and businesses are failing to invest sufficient money/ies and resources into the "professional development" portions of their budgets.
Assignment. Go to the Internet (and other associated resources) to investigate and address the following three points:
1. In its current state, why has the "traditional" approach to professional development been ineffective in both training professionals and advancing key outcomes such as assessment scores, perceptions of competence, job satisfaction, and profits?
2. What have been your own experience/s with professional development (the good, the bad, and the ugly)?
Note. If you haven't been involved in professional development (i.e., you're still a student), report what you've heard through interactions with those in the professional world.
3. What is the solution? In other words, what can schools and businesses do to make professional development more effective (cite your sources)?
Provide both personal and evidence-based suggestions (i.e., four or five suggestions).
