She adds that it is important for her to work through the options, thinking of the needs of the different TETA stakeholders as she tries to balance these different needs. She further shares that developing skills to manage corporate politics is important because as a CEO, you are often required to balance competing interests. According to Maphefo, you need to be able to know when and who to lobby for support to ensure that the goals of the organisation are still achieved despite competing interests. Maphefo emphasises the importance of developing a strong management team around her to ensure that she can effectively carry out the responsibilities assigned to her by the board of directors that she reports to. For her, it is even more important that her management team understands her vision of how she wishes to manage the organisation and she does this by continuously communicating to the management team, as well as by empowering them to carry out the work delegated to them.
