Marjorie got in touch with Frank from Pickers and Packers Ltd - one of several companies in the area that supply seasonal workers to local farms. Marjorie has a contract with Pickers and Packers Ltd to supply farm workers, for a 2 week period, every October, at a set price of $7,000 to help out during harvesting time on her fruit farm. As agreed, the workers arrived at Marjorie's farm on the 10th of October 2021 - just in time to start picking Marjorie's prized mangoes. Unfortunately, due to heavy rain, the harvesting was delayed, and after the first week, Frank sent Marjorie the following email:
Received: 12h15 : 18 October 2021 Hi Marjorie, Good weather for ducks, hey? Look, I know the contract price is $7,000, but due to this rain, the workers are threatening to walk off the job because of the difficult working conditions. We will have to charge you an extra $3,000 if you want the harvesting done before the mangoes start rotting on the trees. Thank you for understanding. Frank. Marjorie reluctantly paid the extra $3,000, because her business relies heavily on the profit from selling the mangoes. After the work was completed, Marjorie angrily thought to herself, "Why did I have to pay extra money, to get exactly what we agreed upon in the original contract? They got extra money, but what did I get in return for that extra money?! I should sue them for duressStep by Step Solution
