On 1/9/2012, TheCourt of Appeals of Marylandheard oral arguments in the case ofMarylandv. King.The issue related to whether the police can take DNA swabs fromallpersonsarrestedforcertain violentfelonies. The court issued its opinion on 4/24/2012 ruling by a5-2 votethat to do so constituted aviolation of the 4th Amendmentprohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures.

Upset with the decision, Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler appealed the decision to theSupreme Court of the United States.
