Maserolie, Ready, Terrill, and Waring [Zilli] discuss law enforcement's approach to crime prevention in high crime areas, in particular, public housing areas. After conducting studies at several public housing sites in Jersey City, New Jersey, the authors found that police who implement strategies for eliminating serious crimes in these areas include but are nut limited to, arresting lrey subjects, investigating the circumstances to a particular problem, enforcing open warrants, and strategically targeting incivilities. These tactics differ from public housing authority personnel who implemented less problem-orientated policies such as, evicting residents, creating and enforcing new housing policies, coordinating crime prevention activities, improving the physical design of housing areas, and implementing new measures to improve communication between the residents and housing authority. 1|tier-y few sites had social service progranrs that were offered, but those that did implemented referring residents to treatment and counseling services, granting educational and job opportunities, and working with truancy ofcers. Problem orientated policing had virtually no affect on the amount of public service calls received, but there were not as many serious crimes committed in areas that relied on public housing authorities and social services for the implementations of strategies and tactics. I found this result rather interested and easily disputed because not all crimes committed are reported and I thought granting tenants and residents opportunities like education and employment would have more of an impact in terms of crimes committed
