Materials and Methods Materials: 100 Pennies Box with a lid Piece of graph paper Methods: Place all 100 pennies heads facing up in the box and put on the lid. Shake the box for 5 seconds. Remove all pennies in the box that are showing tails. Count the number of remaining pennies. Replace the lid of the box and shake again for 5 seconds. Remove the pennies with tails showing, and then count the number of pennies lemaining in the box. Repeat this process 10 more times, or until you have 1 or no pennies left. Data and Results VI. Conclusions Vll. Bibliography Data Analysis and Questions: Along with your usual lab write up. he sure to include the following: Plot a graph with the vertical axis showing the number of pennies left in 1. the box. and the horizontal axis showing the shake number (this is the simulated time}. 2. Draw a smooth curve that shows the general trend of the decay. This curve may not go through all the points. Rather, you are looking to draw a curve that is ta) smooth and (b) shows the general trend. It should not have dips and humps!!! 3. Using your smooth curve, determine the approximate shake number, this is your time T1, for 50 surviving pennies. Try to read this to the nearest tenth. also find the time T2 for 25 surviving pennies, and T3 for 12 pennies. and T; for 6 pennies, and T5 for 3 pennies. 4. Determine the average halflife by using the following formula: T = (T1 + (TzT1) + (TaT2} + (TaT3} + {T5 T))/5
