Mathematics 10 Fourth Quarter - Week 6 - 7 Lesson: Formulating Statistical Mini Research MELC: Formulates statistical mini research. (M10SP-IVf-g-1, Week 6-7) Key Concepts What is research? Research involves a purposive, organized, and planned program of activities that results in the acquisition of new knowledge (Caintic, 2008). It aims to generate new knowledge or information, find an application of the new knowledge and verify existing knowledge. Sources of Research Topics People, places, and objects around you are possible sources of your research. The existing gap between the needs and resources of a community can be a potential problem or topic of research. The Research Process The research process, like any other processes, is made up of several steps. Each step leads logically to the next one. The figure below shows the steps involved in formulating a statistical research. Identification of a Research Problem (It involves the formulation of research questions.) Collection of Data It is the stage of conducting a survey to collect or gather numerical data.) Presentation of Data (It is the organization of data into tables, graphs, or charts so that logical and statistical conclusions can be derived from the collected measurements.) Data Analysis and Interpretation (This aims to determine the statistical tools or appropriate measures of position that will generate statistical solution to the research problem.) Formulation of Conclusion (A conclusion can be stated to summarize the major findings of the research and state the importance and future application.)Activity 1 Directions: Based on the given situation and research questions, complete the statistical mini research by following the process chart. Use clean sheets of bond paper for your answer. COVID-19 spreads mainly from one person to another through respiratory droplets. Respiratory droplets travel through the air when you cough, sneeze or talk. Mask is a simple barrier to help prevent your respiratory droplets from reaching others. When you wear a mask, you protect others as well as yourself. Several studies have found out that people with COVID-19 who never develop symptoms or those asymptomatic and those who are not yet showing symptoms or pre-symptomatic can also spread the virus. Wearing a mask helps protect those around you, in case you are infected despite not showing any symptoms. (Source: Center for Disease Control and Prevention) Formulate a statistical mini research that will answer the following research questions: Research Questions 1. What is the average consumption of face mask of your family members on a weekly basis? 2. What is your own consumption of face mask relative to the consumption of other members of your family? Collection of Data 1. Record the number of face masks used by your family members in one week? Presentation of Data 1. Create a frequency distribution table from the data gathered. Data Analysis and Interpretation 1. Compute for the mean. 2. Use measure of position to determine your usage of face masks in relation to other family members' consumption. Formulation of Conclusion 1. Summarize the significant results of your statistical methods
