MATLAB
Question 1:
You are working on the development of a new chemotherapy drug for lung cancer, Plaxamaxin, and are charged with developing initial dosing and administration recommendations in pre-clinical studies. Plaxamxin is designed so that it could be administered as an inhaled chemotherapy agent, which has shown some added promise for treatment, or as a traditional IV injection. Your job is to figure out some things about dosing, drug kinetics, and clearance.
In early stage trials, you decided to give a bolus aerosolized inhaltion of 1 mg/dL of plaxamaxin at time=0 min, in order to begin understanding this system. In the associated matlab workspace, you can find vectors for time, in minutes, and the inhalation function, in mg/dL (TIME, PLAX_INHAL). Note that the inhalation is complete in 1 second, a negligible amount of time.
You measure systemic concentrations of the drug in the blood (in mg/dL), which is listed in the matlab workspace as PLAX_INHAL_BLOOD given at the end of the question.
You know that in this model, it is safe to assume that over the 5hr timescale you are considering, the physiological system is linear, and time-invariant.
You need to report on blood concentrations if the inhalant was administered via a continuous mask respirator, starting at t=20 min, that delivered .1 mg/dL over 10 min, or a total Plaxamaxin dose of 1 mg/dL.
1a. Generate the mask respirator plaxamaxin administration function (in mg/dL), resp_plax(t), and plot this function.
1b. Generate and Plot the blood concentration of plaxamaxin, resp_plax_blood(t), that arises in response to this administration function.
1c. Generate and Plot the blood concentration of plaxamaxin, resp_plax_blood_2(t) if the inhalant was administered via a continuous mask respirator, starting at t=20 min, that delivered .1 mg/dL over 60 min, or a total Plaxamaxin dose of 6 mg/dL. Describe the difference.
MATLAB Workspace values:
TIME:
Time is a 1x301 double with values starting from 0 to 300
Note: Time is over a 5 hour period (300 minutes)
PLAX_INHAL_BLOOD: 301x1 double
