MAWU is furious that German Engineering is offering to grant organisational rights to their rival union.

Thembinkosi Newell, one of the employees hoping one day to become a shop steward, called a meeting of all the union members. He gets the crowd worked up about the presence of the rival union and accuses German Engineering of bad faith bargaining, calling for all the employees to go out on strike action in protest of the company's support of the rival union. All the MAWU members left the property immediately, dancing and shouting slogans.
