Question: You are a lifeguard at a pool and you need to get to a swimmer near the other end of the pool (as in the diagram below). 3m 15m S 5m 7m The shaded part indicates the pool deck (land) and the white part is the pool itself. The measurements indicate how far the swimmer, S, is away from each side of the pool. L is where you, the lifeguard begins. You can run 4.5 m/s and you can swim 2 m/s. Determine the route that will get to the swimmer the fastest. Provide mathematical evidence to support your chosen route. You may assume that you run at a constant speed, even around corners.
