Share is calculated by taking the rating of any particular program (or group of programs) divided by the HUT (or PUT) for that particular time period. These numbers are interrelated as follows: Rating(HH) divided by HUT = Share HUT times Share = Rating(HH) Rating(HH) divided by Share = HUT We can do this looking at any one program or for a group of programs. For the previous table we grouped programs within time periods according to origination of the programming (network, cable, etc.). Use the data from the previous table to calculate the shares for each program group within each time period. Your totals should add up to 100 on every line. For example, to find the network share of total audience for programming M-F at 7AM, you would take the number 12.0 divided by the HUT for the time period 23 to get the answer 52% Cable Daypart M-F 7AM Other Networks 52% Syndies Total 100 M-F 3PM 100 M-F 9PM 100 Sat 10AM 100 Sat 3PM 100 Sun 9AM 100 Sun 4PM 100 THINK: If all of these numbers (Rating, Share, HUT/PUT) are related, why do you think it is important to know them all? The HUT (or PUT) for a given time period is simply the total of all ratings within that period. With this in mind, complete the table below.
