After adequate general anesthesia, a cervical incision was made. Skin, fascia, and muscle were retracted to expose the thyroid gland. A severely enlarged left lobe of the thyroid was found. The left lobe was removed in total and sent to pathology for analysis. Parathyroid glands were carefully inspected and found to be normal. These were not removed but were left intact. All bleeders were cauterized. The skin and muscle were closed in layers.
