Due: 20.11.2023 Question 1 MULUNGUSHI UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MEE 421 - ASSIGNMENT 2 60 Marks An open-belt drive connects two pulleys 120cm and 50cm diameter on parallel shafts 4m apart. The belt weighs 0.9kg/m length and maximum tension in it is not to exceed 2000N. The coefficient of friction is 0.3. The 120cm pulley, which is the driver runs at 200rpm. Due to belt slip on one of the pulleys, the velocity of the driven shall is only 450rpm. Calculate the torque on each of the two shafts, i) ii) Calculate the power transmitted iii) Calculate the power lost in friction. iv) What is the efficiency of the drive? Question 2 A screw-jack has a square thread of mean diameter 6cm and pitch 9mm. The coefficient of friction at the screw-thread is 0.09. A load of 2N is to be lifted through 10cm. Determine the torque required and work done in lifting the load through 10 cm. Find the efficiency of the Jack. Question 3 In a compound gear train shown below, the power is transmitted from the motor shaft to output shaft. The motor shaft is connected to gear 1 whereas the output shaft is connected to gear 6. The motor shaft rotates at 1,125rpm in the clockwise direction, Find the direction and speed of output shaft.
