Purpose

How reliable is eyewitness testimony? What factors can affect the reliability of eyewitness testimony? The purpose of the discussion is to explore the nature of memory construction

The discussion meets the following module outcome:

Recognize the problems associated with memory, including reasons related to different types of amnesia, research regarding memory construction and reconstruction, and forgetting.

STEP 1.Before going any further, get a sheet of paper and pen or pencil and participate in an activity by following all directions of this video (1:52). HE/SHE MUST watch the entire video. When watching the video, he/she will be asked to write down some words.

STEP 2. Compose a two-paragraph replyby answering the following questions:

First paragraph prompt: (a) Share the words that he/she wrote down as it was watched in the video

b) When he/she compared the words that was wrote to the words presented, how did he/she do? Get them all or miss some of them? Why? Explainwhether or not he/she were surprised. Be specific.

Second paragraph prompt: Scroll to the section on "Suggestibility" in Section 8.3, Problems with Memory. Links to an external site. Explain how suggestibility can affect the recall of a memory. Describe an example or two from he/her life (or someone close to you) in which this may have occurred. Be sure to include supporting details.
