The main pathway ofmetabolism by CYP1A2 is through changes to the piperazinyl group of ciprofloxacin to makefour known metabolites (as seen in Figure 3)[1]. Out of these four metabolites, oxociprofloxacinand sulociprofloxacin are known to be the major metabolites, each making up 3-8% of the totaldose [3]. Desethylene ciprofloxacin and formylciprofloxacin, the other two known metabolitesof ciprofloxacin, are listed as minor.[3].
