Methane and air are fed into the oxidation reactor at the conditions of temperature of 25C and pressure of 2 bar. Molar flow rate for methane is 100 kgmole/h while molar flow rate for air is 260 kgmole/h. Composition of Nitrogen and Oxygen in the air feed is 0.79 and 0.21, respectively. Some product leave the top of the reactor as vapor while some products leave the bottom of the reactor as liquid. The ratio of composition of product at the top and bottom reactor is 1.1. There are two reactions involved. Reaction 1 will proceed first with 40% conversion of methane to carbon oxide and hydrogen followed by reaction 2 with 60% conversion of methane to carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Methane is limiting reactants and will be used up at the end of the reaction.
