Methanol evaporaon and combuson MB
Methanol is burned as a fuel in device that uses evaporation to regulate the air to fuel ratio.
In the first part of the process, dry air is bubbled through a liquid methanol evaporator maintained
at 20o
C. Enough liquid methanol is fed to the evaporator to replace that lost by evaporation. The
methanol leaving in their air stream has 95% relative saturation. The air and methanol is then fed to
a combustor at 1 atm pressure.
Start by preparing a block flow diagram. Without doing any calculations, explain what calculations
you will do, in what order. What components are you going to need?
Assuming complete combustion, calculate the molar composition of the combustor exhaust gas.
( answer : nitrogen mole fraction =0.654
