MHRC 426 Term Project

Throughout the remainder of the cohort, students will be working on phases of a comprehensive term project that utilizes concepts and material from each of the following courses: Recruitment, Selection and Placement of HR, Training, Development and Employee Relations and Compensation and Benefits Administration. Each class will have a course term project with deliverables that are specific to each class, but build on the content developed in prior courses. Background information and job descriptions can be found in the "Term Project Documents" link in the assignment. For this course, the following are the specific instructions and deliverables: Phase I: For each of the jobs or groups of jobs, you must first identify a strategy for orienting, training and developing (i.e. continuing education/training) new employees in each job (or groups of jobs). This should include a new hire orientation as well as job/department specific training and development considerations. Phase II: Identify how will you evaluate the success of your training and development plans, including both quantitative and qualitative measures.

Background Information

The Office Place is a new retail venture that is located in Omaha, NE that sells office supplies to retail "face-to-face" customers, online customers as well as to other businesses (primarily in bulk). Their strategy and mission is to sell their products at a deeply discounted price, while providing the best customer service experience possible. This strategy is primarily based on industry research showing that there is a growing dissatisfaction with the level of customer service from retailers. This start-up will eventually employ approximately 100 people at various levels and positions and all will be located in the Omaha, NE facility. The Omaha, NE job market tends to have lower unemployment rates and more job stability than in other areas of the country.
