The best ways to prevent injury are to learn about the health risks that can lead to an injury, understand the consequences, and practice what you would do before you ever find yourself in a risky situation. Read these three scenarios and describe how you would handle each one. Part A Your good friend Emma invited you to her 18-year-old cousin Matt’s birthday party. Emma is a straight- A student who is also on the cheerleading squad. When you get to her cousin’s house, you see that there are no adults there. Emma’s cousin hands her a beer. He then hands you a beer and says, "Here, have one. I do it all the time, and I never get caught." What would you do?
Part B On occasional Thursdays after school, you head over to your friend Kelly’s house to hang out, watch movies, and talk about your weekend plans. Kelly tells you that she’s been talking online with a stranger she met in a chat room who says he would like to meet her at the mall the following afternoon. What would you do?
Part C During practice last week, you twisted your ankle sliding into third base. Your ankle is feeling much better, but it isn’t completely healed. Your team is short on relief players, and your coach asks if you could play left field for the last inning of the game. You wore your uniform to support your team, but you weren’t planning to play. Your doctor advised you not to play for another week. What would you do?
