Mike's Auto Shop is a small but growing auto repair garage that provides excellent service and repair of foreign and domestic automobiles. The owner, MikeKujawa

wants to have better information to run and grow his business. Read the following narrative and translate it into a conceptual database model for Mike's Auto Shop

that can be implemented in a relational database. Customers bring their vehicles in to Mike's Auto Shop for routine and repair services. The services are performed by staff

mechanics who may or may not need to replace parts on the vehicle. Mike wants to track information about the shop's customers and their vehicles, garage mechanics, parts,

and service orders.

a. Currently, the auto shop has 5 mechanics that work in the garage. Mike wants to record the mechanic's names, date of hire, and the mechanic's billable hourly rate.

b. Mike wants to record Customer's data: names, address, contact info (phone and email), and date of first contact.

c. Mike also wants to record data about the vehicles serviced in his shop. Vehicles have a make, model, model year, color, engine size and a VIN#.

d. The auto shop carries inventory of parts used in servicing the vehicles. Mike wants to track that inventory by: part name, part description, quantity on hand, per unit cost and the reorder point (the number at which we replenish the inventory item), and the reorder quantity.

e.Mikes wants to record the information about a Service Order. When the vehicle is presented for service, the intake clerk fills out a service order form with the vehicle's current mileage, the service date, a description of the service needed, the estimated hours of labor and the estimated cost of parts for the service order. When the service request is complete, Mike also wants to record the actual number of labor hours required to perform the repair.

f. A customer can have 1 or many vehicles and each vehicle is associated with one and only one customer.

g. A vehicle can have one or more service orders but each service order is associated with one

and only one vehicle.

h. A mechanic is assigned to work on one or many service orders each service order is assigned to one and only one mechanic.

i. Service Orders may require 0 to many parts and each part can be used on 0 to many service orders. When a part is used on a service order, Mike wants to also cap

ture the quantity of parts used and the labor hours required to install it
