Mildred, a 67-year-old grandmother, was out with her family to celebrate her birthday. The party was being held in the dining room of the El Matador Hotel. The guests all arrived at noon. They were informed that their table was not ready and that they could wait in the lounge. After a short 20-minute wait, headwaiter Hans arrived to inform them that a table was ready. Mildred followed closely behind Hans on the way to the table. She had just reached the table. Hans was pulling back the chair for her and she fell. She claimed it felt like her foot slipped. There was a fresh orange peel by her side. The fall caused her to black out for a second and she was uncomfortable for the rest of the day. The service staff had been very well trained to look out for foreign objects on the floor. All members of the staff who were called to witness mentioned just how strict the training was.
