MINAI is an on-demand delivery & marketplace platform where customers can purchase goods from eCommerce brands with global footprints at a cheaper cost and with real-time fast delivery. It's like UberEats but for eCommerce brands/goods. Customers shop products at minai.ca then drivers pick up consumer goods and drop them off at the client address with real-time tracking provided to customers. The startup is based in Toronto, Canada and the platform consists of multiple parties: drivers, sellers, and customers.
Products are picked-up from businesses and dropped off to customers within a 5-mile radius. These businesses usually store their products in their warehouse, stores, or home. The courier drivers will pick up from these locations. Since the drivers can only pick up in their city, a common concern is what if a business wants to expand and sell in new cities. A small business that's located in Calgary, Canada may not be able to participate in selling in Toronto due to the 5-mile radius rule. A distribution solution will need to be created to allow local businesses to expand to new cities.
Table 1 describes two different methods to aid businesses to expand to new cities and Table 2 lists the calculated KPIs related to these two possible methods. Students will need to analyze these two different distribution methods and suggest the best one to use.
