Mini-Project 29: Computer Forensic Presentation
Mini-Project Overview
Computer forensics generally refers to steps taken to collect and analyze digital data, such as what is found (or sometimes buried) in computers, phones, portable hard drives, and cloud storage locations. Computer forensics experts have specialized tools that allow them to analyze data that may not be displayed in plain text or that would not be responsive to search terms. This evidence may help piece together what actions a user took and when; such as, for example, when a user modified a file, downloaded wiping software, or attached an external hard drive to the computer. Computer forensics specialists who work in private industry are sometimes faced with unique challenges, especially if senior management has a flawed view of the field, and how its practitioners do their jobs.
Project Submission Steps
You are the new computer forensics specialist at a mid-size telecommunications company based in Michigan. You have been asked to prepare a presentation for the Board of Directors on your main duties for the company and how your position could help achieve business goals based on security and confidentiality. You are also aware that the company has just had some issues with employee complaints of ongoing sexual harassment over email and instant messaging systems, but has been unable to obtain adequate evidence of any kind.

1.Explain the basic primary tasks, high-level investigation processes, and challenges of a computer forensics specialist.
2.Provide an overview of how computing devices are used to commit code of ethics violations, as well as crimes, and how these activities can affect a companys data, information and reputation.
3.Discuss how computer forensics investigations pertain to the law and trying of cases. Include topics such as admissibility of evidence, chain of custody, monitoring of employee activity, and state statutes governing who can perform forensic work.
