Phonics/Syllable Decoding for Small Group (Tier 2)

Criterion	Your Name: Current/Aspirant Placement Grade: 9th Grade
Who? Who are you selecting this strategy for? Identify the individual, class, or group, and explain why it is an appropriate instructional strategy for them at this point in time.
What? What are the specific skill or skills of focus? Get specific! One of the Big 5 or writing AND which part. For example, phonemic awareness working on substituting final sounds in spoken words...etc.
How? What are the skill(s) and/or the strategies you are teaching? What wording will you use to teach the strategy? What will you do to model? What materials will you need? What specific prompts will you use? What will you do? What will students do?
Assessment? How will you assess your students' needs before beginning the mini-lesson and/or after the mini-lesson has finished? Why did you select a particular assessment? Why would it be important to track their progress in this way?
Visual? Take a picture of the visual that you create, your students create, or you create together. This might be an anchor chart, a strategy support, or other way to remember the strategy.
