The Umbrella Corporation (officially named Umbrella Pharmaceutical Incorporated) is a mega corporation which operates as a major international player in a number of markets including pharmaceuticals, medical hardware, defense, and computers along with more clandestine operations utilizing genetic engineering and biological weaponry. Unbeknownst to local authorities and the government, the Umbrella Corporation has been developing a vaccine for its T-virus in a secret lab facility under the Bay View Elementary school in New Monterey, CA. Umbrella executives just reported to the Monterey Peninsula Crisis Task Force (MPCTF) that an accident at their lab has resulted in an unintentional release of the virus into the local Racoon City water supply. Unfortunately, this accidental release occurred five days ago and the Umbrella Corporation is only coming forward now because the first Day of Number individual with likely infectious symptoms just arrived at CHOMP's Outbreak Infected emergency room. In an effort to cooperate with MCTF, the Umbrella 6 Corporation has released the following information. 9 13 Based on recent incidents in Racoon City, any individual who experiences an W N 18 exposure to the T-virus or another infected individual may become infected. All infected individuals ultimately succumb (die) to the infection and become 4 27 animated mindless monsters who do not feel pain and who have an immense 5 38 appetite for human flesh. The Corporation has affectionately termed these 6 56 succumbed individuals as Zombies. A zombie's only aim is to kill, eat or 81 infect additional people. Zombies are known to move in small, irregular 117 steps, and show signs of physical decomposition such as rotting flesh, 170 discolored eyes and open wounds. When an un-infected individual is bitten 10 246 by a zombie, it leaves an open wound filled with the zombie's saliva that 11 mixes with the victim's blood, thus infecting the individual. Modeling the Historic (Racoon City) Outbreak. a. d. Using the historic Racoon City data set, create a scatter plot with the days on the x-axis and the number of infected individuals on the y-axis. Discuss the general trend and shape of your plot. Find the best metion that models the data set using days as the independent variable (predictor) and the number of infected as the dependent variable. Describe how you found your model (function). How well does your model t the historic data? What issues might this cause? On a single graph, plot your function along with the scatter plot of the Racoon City data. 2. Modeling the New Monterey Outbreak a. Develop a discrete dynamical system to model the outbreak and spread of the New Monterey zombie outbreak. Using your model, predict the amount of time necessary for the outbreak to spread throughout the Monterey Peninsula. Discuss how accurate you believe this prediction is. Develop at least three Course of Actions (COA) the MPCTF can take to stem or stop the zombie outbreak. For each COA, discuss, at a minimum, the necessary resources, time, and how the government should implement the COA. For each COA, modify your discrete dynamical system model (Requirement 2a) to determine the impact on stemming or stopping the ow of the zombie outbreak (you should have at least three additional models at the end of this requirement). Conduct an analysis of your three COA and make a recommendation to the local authorities for implementation
