Module 01 Course Project - Summarize a Business Case ACME Device Corporation has had phenomenal success in developing and marketing intelligent devices for the home. ACME was founded in 2000 as a research think-tank, formed by a group of engineers who split-off from Microsoft, IBM, Google, Amazon, Qualcomm, and other key players in the IT world. The first major success came to ACME with its development of intelligent LED lightbulbs. While not the first to market, ACME delivered something new and unique, a light bulb that contained everything needed to connect to a wireless network. Competing products at the time required that smart devices in the home had to communicate with a hub machine that was hard-wired to an Internet router. By putting miniaturized wireless connection circuitry in the base of each light bulb, ACME eliminated the need for consumers to purchase and install an expensive device control hub. ACME developed apps for Apple and Android smart phones and tablets that control its bulbs, either individually or in user-designated groups. Therefore, a user can setup a group called, for instance, "living room" that contains bulbs in table lamps, floor lamps, and ceiling fixtures. The user can control individual bulbs, or the entire room as a group. Schedules can be easily setup in the app to turn lights on and off at different times throughout the day. Furthermore, the app can provide usage and energy consumption data, allowing a user to tune the setup to save resources and money. Following a free firmware upgrade in February of 2017, all ACME bulbs can also be seamlessly controlled using voice commands on Google Home or Amazon Echo. Currently, ACME lightbulbs, appliance controllers, environmental sensors, security system components, and so on, work on the basis of wireless connectivity within the home. The only time the devices communicate with the outside world is when a new firmware update is distributed by ACME. The new A10 capability you have been asked to consult on involves storage of device sensor and operation data in the cloud. All of the current ACME solutions share an architecture which is ideally suited to the nature and operation of the devices they sell. Understanding the "As Is" architecture will be important in Module 04, where you will propose a new architecture optimized for the new ACME capability. Over the next few weeks you will work on a "To Be" architecture that takes into consideration the needs of A10 requirements. In module 01 of the course, you will create a business case summary for ACME. Each week thereafter, you will create other reports all pertaining to the ACME A10 project. In week 05, you will tie it all together into a final MS PowerPoint presentation for senior management of the ACME Corporation. Please create a 4-6 page APA-styled report about the ACME Corporation and its new A10 device. The indicated page count includes 1 APA title page and 1 reference page. Therefore the body of the document will be 2-4 pages in length. Please download and complete the Module 01 Project Template and, using this starter document, follow the structure provided below for the ACME project: Page 1: APA Title page Pages 2 through x: Project Definition o Brief background of the ACME Corporation o Business Objectives and Impact associated with the introduction of the new A10 device and cloud storage of device data o Benefits and Limitations related to the introduction of the new A10 device and cloud storage of device data Last Page: APA styled references Module 01 Course Project - Summarize a Business Case ACME Device Corporation has had phenomenal success in developing and marketing intelligent devices for the home.
