Module 03 Discussion - (Unrealistic) Expectations of Children Discussion Topic Activity Time: 4 Hours Directions: Background For those who work with children, treating children with respect is a must. Adults often think that children are just kids and that they should not be given the same respect and dignity that adults are afforded. This perception is incorrect. Children are humans and should also be shown respect. The important difference between children and adults is that children have not been alive very long. Adults cannot expect children to have mastered skills when they have only been told only once or twice to do something. Controlling emotions, for example, will not change after strategies have been given once. It takes time for children to learn how to read body language, facial expressions, and so much more.
