Module 1 Activity 1 CCC NUMBER 4

Directions: Read and follow the following directions below.

1. Consider the data below. Assume the data below represents the exam 1 grade for a class of 50 students in statistics. To each value add the last digit of your CCC student identification number (not your social security number). For example, if the last digit is 3 then the first data value will be 34 (34 + 3 = 37).

Please don't change the data set. Please copy the data table to another spreadsheet and work on it

2. Create a grouped frequency distribution using 7 classes. This distribution should list class limits and frequency. Use this frequency distribution to create a histogram on this scratch sheet of paper.

3. Input the revised data into Excel to create a histogram using the seven classes obtained on paper above. Help:- You tube (creating histogram in excel)

a. Create the histogram in the same file as the data but in a different sheet.

b. Label the sheet containing the revised data, "Data."

c. Label the sheet containing the histogram, "Histogram."

4. Edit the histogram so that it:

a. The axes are labeled clearly. That is, the titles should reflect "Frequency" for the y-axis and "Limits" for the x-axis. The x-axis should list both the lower and upper limits.

b. Delete the category "More" and its frequency from the Frequency Distribution created by Excel. This will also eliminate it from the histogram simultaneously.

c. Enlarge the graph so that it is easily viewable, and the shape of the histogram is apparent.

5. Using your revised data, create a Descriptive Statistics table including:

a. The title of the Descriptive Statistics Table should be "Exam 1 Grade." This comes from the title of the data column.

b. Place the Descriptive Statistics Table within a new sheet within the same file as the Histogram by clicking on "New Worksheet Ply." Label this new sheet "Descriptive Statistics."

6. Within another sheet within the same file as the Histogram and Descriptive Statistics table do the following:

a. Label the sheet, "Summary."

b. Using complete sentences (that is, use subject, verb and object, including correct grammar usage) and referring to the histogram and descriptive statistics table type the following:

i. A description of the shape of the data from the histogram (symmetric or left or right skewed) and justify.

ii. A description of the shape of the data from the measures of center (symmetric or left or right skewed) and justify.

iii. A description of the shape of the data from the coefficient of skewness (symmetric or left or right skewed) and justify.

c. Clearly identify what you are answering above. That is, number your answers according to the question you are answering. If I or others must guess, then it is not written appropriately.

7. Evaluate your assignment using the "Module 1 Activity 1 Rubric" before submitting the assignment. This rubric can be found on Brightspace within the "Course Resources" area in the "Scoring Rubrics" folder.

8. Save the file using your first initial, last name, and activity title (i.e., mpieters mod1 act2). Save your assignment as an Excel file (.xls). Then post your assignment appropriately to the Discussion Board in the forum, "Module 1 Activity 1 - Computers can do anything" by the due date. Go to the Discussion Board, open the appropriate forum, click "Add new thread" and in the subject
