Module 2s readings focused on Strategic Management and Planning with Accountability and Performance. Readings by Campbell & Haley along with Bell, Masaoka and Zimmermans work centered on planning and sustainability of nonprofits. For some time now an active debate has existed in the literature in reference to the size and function of government in society, limited government and privatization, and the role of nonprofits as the third sector. In Goodsells reading this week, we read about his concept of Mission Mystique. The question is does the ideal of Mission Mystique fit in today's public sector environment given the polarization and frequent changes in leadership, or are the ideals better suited for nonprofit and private sector organizations? Also provide an example of a public organization, which has successfully transitioned into an institution embodying Goodsells Mission Mystique. Provide details of your example organizations evolution from an organization into a Mission Mystique institution.

While students do not need to research and teach unit concepts, you will want to demonstrate familiarity and understanding of the module readings. In addition to your initial response in the discussion board, you will also respond to two other students. These posts will be worth 2 pt each based on the following criteria:

Does the student engage in the discussion? (e., response posts should do more than agree or disagree with a post.)

Does the student provide additional thoughts and insights on specific concepts outlined by weekly readings?

Were Reply Posts made for the purpose of discussion, or were Reply Post made at the end of the discussion window, not conducive of engagement. (Full credit will not be provide to first Reply Post made at the end of the discussion window).
