Student one: My upbringing was unconventional. My mom and dad divorced when I was 5 years old. I stayed with my maternal side of the family, my grandmother, aunt, and uncles. When my mom and dad were married we lived upstairs from my grandmother so she was able to help when I was born. In my culture it's not unusual to have many family members that help raise the children. The saying is "it takes a village to raise a child".
I was a very chill kid, simply because I was the only kid in the house, and the first grandchild, my parents first kid, and of course the first niece. I was what most considered spoiled. "I GUESS". I didn't have many rules which have been both a gift and a curse. This attributes to my personality. I am fun, outgoing, and very empathic. I am also clear, and like order.
I have 3 daughters, I see parts of me in all three. The oldest is stern and focused. The middle one is loving and busy, and the youngest is spoiled and entitled, go figure. All and all I can say I feel pretty well rounded, I know when to hold'em, and when to fold em. This week's test held true to this it mostly showed I am an empathetic idealist, and a practical caretaker. I love taking care of people, and service children with special needs in my current career.
Student two:My strongest ones were Openness, Conscientiousness, and Extraversion. I like to think that I am very situational when it comes to my temperament. I am a pretty patient person. I also can be outgoing and reserved depending on what the situation calls for.
I try to be as positive as I can be and try to give everyone my best. Sometimes (as my kids point out), I get frustrated and sometimes even my temperament gets frustrated.
I think sometimes the best thing to do is try to give your best to everyone. There are times and people that we get frustrated with. However, we need to keep trying to find the best in people.
What is our mindset? Do we have a growth mindset do we see the best in people and are we open to growth in ourselves and others? Are we open to feedback, positive or negative? I know that I get defensive if someone is overly critical of me and that can impact my temperament. Even when the feedback is warranted.
I think our outlook can impact it and stress can have a huge impact on temperament. The more stress you are under the more that can impact your temperament. People have told me in my life, that (and maybe it helps that my background is counseling and psychology) I assess the situation and determine how I need to approach it. If I need to be very outgoing, I will. If I need to step back and listen more, I do that also. At the end of the day, we are the ones in control of our temperament. That is something we always need to remember.
