Module 6: Week 6 Introduction

Overview

This module discusses the role of international cooperation and international law in providing peace and security in the international system. You will also examine the relationship between state cooperation and international law as well as reasons for the occasional failure of both to achieve either peace or security.

• Define international cooperation and explain why realists argue that achieving it can be difficult.
• Describe how the theoretical perspectives explain instances of cooperation.
• Define international law and describe its various sources.
