Mohammed Yunus, from Bangladesh, pioneered a new form of micro loans to poor entrepreneurs outside of the normal bank structure so they could start new businesses. His method has been replicated in 25 countries. In 2006, he won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work. Yunus has also published articles about his work and is often consulted by other banks and the International Monetary Fund about how to set up micro loan programs.
