Money talks when it comes to elections and with the growing price tag of recent presidential elections, fundraising is key. For example, in the 2012 presidential election candidates sent roughly 6 billion dollars, in 2016 nealy 7 billion was spent. And in 2020 it was 14.4 billion. I would assume in this political climate 2024 is set to beat all of them. The question to be answered is where all of this money is coming from. Are these races being funded wealthy individuals who are attempting to buy influence or just simply everyday individuals who are wanting their candidate elected? We need to look at two simple issues before answering these questions. First, look at the Citizens United case decision and what it says about money and speech, then, look at the amount of money coming from individuals versus corporations or interest groups. Is it simply who has more money and media backing who may be marginal at best but it is their turn to be president or should it be about the not so wealthy or popular candidate who is out to help the country. Some would suggest that this inequality of wealth and resources is causing the party
