Monica, and Rachel were going to meet for coffee at Central Perks. Monica was very excited because she just received her father's Porsche. She parked her Porsche in the self-service park-and-lock lot of Keep It Safe, Inc., located across the street from the coffee house. She received a ticket from the ticket meter that stated: "Notice. The contract limits Keep It Safe's liability. Read it. No bailment is created because we rent space only."

Keep It Safe, Inc. had an attendant who would assist in valet parking when needed. Even though there was an attendant at the lot that day, Monica parked the Porsche herself and kept the keys. Two hours later Ross and Chandler arrived to see if the girls wanted to go see Joey's play downtown. It was thirty minutes away. Unfortunately, Monica and Phoebe were planning on catering an event for the night. Monica went to get the Porsche so she could drive her and Phoebe to the catering event. When she went to her parking space, she discovered that her Porsche had been stolen. Monica sued Keep It Safe, Inc. claiming that it had breached its duty as a bailee.
