Mrs. Arshpreet Kaur is an 87-year-old female of the Sikh religion who moved from India with her husband and 5 children 25 years ago. She recently moved to Glory Gardens Residential Aged Care Facility on the Gold Coast, Queensland. She is a widower with 5 adult-aged children and 10 grandchildren. Mrs Kaurs spoken English is good.

Prior to coming to the residential aged care facility, Mrs.

Kaur lived independently in her home, in the regional Queensland town where she has lived since moving to Australia, and where some of her children still live.

Although her recent move to the Gold Coast will allow her to be closer to two of her daughters who both live near the residential aged care facility), she won't be able to see her large extended family each day, which she used to do.

Because of the move, she also gave up her volunteer role at the local community centre

Since arriving at the residential care facility, Mrs. Kaur's appetite has been poor. She has lost weight and her BMIs is currently 18. She refuses meals regularly and says that she does not like the food at the facility. She also has to be encouraged by staff to drink water regularly.

Mrs. Kaur mobilizes with a walking frame. Since arriving at the facility, she has wanted to spend increasingly more time in her room (which she shares with another resident). She complains of pain in her hip and is reluctant to mobilise to the dining room for meals. Recently the residential aged care facility had an outbreak of Norovirus. This morning, Mrs. Kaur is complaining of abdominal pain and tells staff she has had three episodes of diarrhea. Two other residents in Mrs. Kaur's corridor have shown similar symptoms, and it is likely they have Norovirus.
