Mrs White, who is almost completely blind in her right eye, is advised by an ophthalmic surgeon, Dr Black, that he is able to operate on the eye and significantly restore her sight. After the operation there is no improvement to sight in her right eye. She then loses sight in her left eye, due to a condition known as sympathetic ophthalmia. This risk is low, but is a known risk. Dr Black failed to warn Mrs White of this risk and now Mrs White intends to sue Dr Black for breach of duty of care. Advise Mrs White whether Dr Black had a duty to warn her about a possible risk involved in the operation.
